Learn a trade and trust in God

the story name

R. Meir said: Everyone should teach his son a clean and light trade, but he should always pray to God to whom belongs all the wealth and all the riches, for neither poverty nor wealth is dependent upon a man's profession, but upon Him alone who holds in His hands all the wealth of the world and who alone can send the blessing, as the verse says, "Mine is the silver and Mine the gold, saith the Lord of hosts" (Hag. 2.8). Therefore R. Simeon, the son of Eliezer, said: "I' have never in all my life seen a roebuck carrying a heavy burden, nor have I seen a fox who kept a shop, and yet none of them die of hunger. All of these have been created in order to serve me, and I have been created to serve the Lord, blessed be He. Therefore t say, if these, who have been created to serve me are able to support themselves without trouble, how much more reasonable is it to expect that I, who have been created to serve the Lord, should be able to sustain myself without trouble! But why is this not the case? Because my deeds are evil, therefore my food is cut off because of my sins."
