R. Gamda also gave four shillings to sailors that they should bring him something, but they found nothing except a monkey, which they brought to him. After a time the monkey escaped and hid himself in a hole under the earth, where he was found sitting upon a very rare pearl, which was worth much money. R. Gamda got a great deal of money for it. This was a reward for R. Gamda's great piety and saintliness.
