Story of a man who rode alone at night and saw a whole army of dead people pulling wagons full of other dead people One night, when the moon was shining brightly, a man was riding alone in the desert. Suddenly he saw a great number of carts full of dead people. Very much astonished, the man drew near and recognized among them a number of people who had died long ago. Then he asked these people: "Why must you draw the carts the whole night, while some of you are sitting inside?" And they said: "These carts are filled with the sins committed by us in our lifetime. We have been very free with women, therefore we must drag these carts along until we get very tired. Then they get out and we get in, and they drag the carts along until they get tired, and this continues the whole night long. There are persons appointed to beat us like beasts, while we drag the carts. For a man is punished in the other world for every sin he commits." Therefore one should beware of committing sins. |
