Women should not leave the synagogue during the prayer of Kedushah |
the story name |
|
Once upon a time there lived an old woman, who rose every morning before dawn, went to synagogue and prayed devoutly. She was a very pious woman besides and did many acts of benevolence. After she had died, she appeared to the other women in a dream, and they asked her: "How are they treating you in the other world in reward for your good deeds in this world?" She replied: "They beat me violently every day; and not only that, but wherever pious men and women are sitting together I am driven away from them and not allowed the pleasure of sitting with them." The reason for this was because during her life in this world she left the synagogue when the Kedushah was recited. This was a sin for which she was obliged to suffer in the other world. |
